'Today I want to show you...' The opening sentence of almost all the tutorial videos on the web 2.0 already contains the core of the video series: the sharing of expertise in a globalized and connected world, the image-cultivation of the author and the central idea of the DIY-movement to not only put the product but also the production process of home-made objects into the focus of attention. And lastly, the internet as an inexhaustible, locality-connecting, permanently available source of solutions for problems which occasionally don’t even exist.
This last point has also been at the core of my decision to present conceptually oriented works in the form of tutorial video-clips and by that to both broaden the field of artistic conceptual strategies and also to turn the cultural trend of DIY on the web into a substantial reference point.
The tutorial video-clip as a format to give instructions on the web 2.0 and instructions as an artistic conceptual strategy provide the formal basis of this work.

The installation permanent puddle (2013) is based on the tutorial video of the same name which provides practical instructions on how to build an all-year persistent puddle. Permanent here refers to taking the huge technical effort to install a puddle in the public space which will then be able to maintain its water level independent from exterior circumstances. The realization requires the deployment of a subterranean water tank along with a pump, water level regulators, and a system of hoses to compensate for the natural water loss of the puddle – for example through evaporation – to allow for a permanent existence. This subtle intervention in an otherwise barely noticed phenomenon of our surroundings is therefore following the artistic motivation of the continuous tutorial video series Today I want to show you...! of discovering the normalcy of unsighted details, to scrutinize them and to render them visible by changing them and by intervening with them while at the same time providing answers to questions that have never been asked.
